The Mission

“Without you even noticing, it seeps into your pores.  By Junior year, it’s in your blood.  You can’t remember a time when you didn’t have moments on campus where you lose your breath for a second and all you can think is, ‘Wow, I love this place.’”

I am THRILLED to announce that the proceeds of And Then it Rained: Lessons for Life will be donated to the National College Advising Corps!

The National College Advising Corps, with headquarters at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is an innovative program that works to increase the number of low-income, first-generation college and underrepresented students who enter and complete higher education.

By hiring and training recent graduates of partner college and universities as full-time college advisers and placing them in underserved high schools, the Advising Corps serves communities across the country to provide the advising and encouragement that many students need in order to navigate the complex web of college admissions, secure financial aid and raise the college-going rates within those schools.

To date, the Advising Corps has served more than 189,000 students since its inception in 2004. In school year 2011-2012, 321 advisers representing 18 institutions of higher education in 14 states will reach over 110,000 students in 368 high schools.

In short, not only is the Advising Corps on the same mission I am, they’ve found a successful strategy to carry it out. Sky Blue Mission’s mission is now to help this incredible organization, and I couldn’t be more excited to have found them!
